Child Safety Tips
Did you know that accidents are the leading cause of death for children? Unfortunately, sometimes, no matter how careful and proactive the parents, accidents may happen. Keeping a child’s safety in mind at all times is essential. Here, we believe that this is important year-round! Whether you are a parent or a caregiver, keeping some important baby and child safety tips in mind can go a long way.
Consider this:
- In the event of an emergency, knowing how to perform CPR could save your child’s life
- Every year, there are as many as 350,000 residential fires – it is important not only to teach your children what to do in the event of a fire, but also to keep your home’s safety features up to date. Be sure that smoke detectors and fire extinguishers are installed and checked on regularly. It is especially important to keep one near your room and your child’s room.
- On the same note of fires, be sure to develop a fire escape plan for your home and review it regularly with your family.
- An age appropriate car seat or booster seat can prevent death in a motor vehicle accident. Annually, 1,700 children die as a result of car accidents.
- Equally important, remember that a child should not be allowed to sit anywhere but in the backseat of the car until they are 13 years old – the weight and height requirements are there for safety – the airbags will not deploy if the child is too small.
- Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in younger kids. Even small amounts of water, such as buckets, can be dangerous to kids. Avoid leaving water in open spaces and be sure to install a self-latching fence around your pool if you have one in your yard.
Accident prevention is not just for babies. Keeping your children safe is a lifetime job – we hope this helps you think of what needs to be done!
